Last week, Abhishek and I did a long road trip. We drove over 3200kms (both sides) from New york to Georgia. This trip covered almost full east coast of USA. We could have gone to Atlanta directly by flight but Abhishek wanted to show me some states which come in between New york and Georgia. However, to me 1600kms drive on one side was a big deal. I was getting nervous before it began but now I am so glad that we did it. We stopped at so many places, saw so many different cities and their cultures.

Just like in India, in America also, culture, food and accent of the people change with every state. A city from one state is so different from a city of the other state. Like Washington DC is so administrative and grand in its feel and culture. It has white house and it is the base of all American politics. But DC is very different as compared to Charlotte, which is a city for people who love adventure sports or for people who are in love :)

We went to NASA also. Needless to say NASA is spell bounding. When we went there, they had some open workshops going on, where students were learning to make robots, just like that. I was like Ohh woow! :) There were so many other fascinating things like a real time model of universe, sun and earth etc.

It was more of a socializing trip. As we had to meet a lot of family members on this trip. There was a lot of pampering, eating and gifts. You know after marriage you sometimes cannot avoid overeating. You are made to overeat in the name of pampering. Especially it is impossible to avoid tea and coffee. So what I do is I enjoy all the pampering and eat my heart out but I stay regular to some physical activity like wherever I stayed in the night, I went out to explore different trails the next morning. I took Ab and other family members also along with me so it became kind of a family walk :P

As always, we carried a lot of fruits and huge bottles of water with me. We mostly ate at home of my relatives. Also carried food from their home for the journey further. I believe that carrying home cooked food on travels spares us from grabbing cheesy, meaty, saucy, oily or sugary food on the way.

In case, we had no option but to stop and eat out then instead of eating in some big fancy chain restaurant, we prefer to eat at a place which is local. Like which is famous for local cuisines. Or may be a local food chain. The smaller the place is the better it is. A sandwich from a local Bakery is better than a burger from mc Donalds. Because at mc donalds thousands of burgers are made in a day with not much of check on the quality or on the kind of vegetables used. They might sometimes use a rotten potato and roll it up in a greasy myonnaise and hence make all of the burgers taste same. Whereas at a small place, the quality and quantity of food is much better. Now by a small place, I do not mean, eat at a road side vendor with mud and dirt sticking on food :P . So anyways I rake the life out of the menu. As in what ingredients they put in a particular meal and all that and then find something local and fresh for myself to eat.

Anyways, I find MC Donalds yuck!! :P :P :D *Imagine paying for a rotten potato, and a sleazy myonnaise and then whine over heavy thighs or tummy and pay for hefty gym memberships* *Irony* :P

Back to topic, so you have to do a lot of food and activity planning before leaving for a vacation esp if you travel often or you have a tendency to gain weight easily. Otherwise, you may come home with a guilty head and with some extra 3-4 kgs. And then vacations will become a kind of a nightmare. Hummph!

There is a small bag that we carried this time. It is a cute pink bag which has a huge pocket in front, where we kept random stuff like glasses, cap, water bottle, comb etc. This bag can be opened up to make a big lawn mattress. We carried our lunch from home. We had it in DC. We made a small video of it just for fun. Sharing it with you :)

We went to coca cola’s factory in Atlanta. It had details of how coca cola is prepared and how this drink became a brand and then a business. From there, I gathered a lot of information on the drink. I will start writing about it just when I publish this post.

On this trip, as we drove a long distance so on our way, we came across various seasons. From a black rainy storm, to an extremely sunny day to a windy night to a massive downpour. But we kept moving on and Ab kept saying that it is not easy to be wanderers. He was right, I guess :)

Sharing some pics from the trip. America celebrated its independence day on 4th july. We went to a concert which ended with a grand fire works.

That’s my bua. She reached US on 3rd july. We both were dying to see each other. Ab could not understand what was this excitement in us for :D

Anyways, Bhabhi and bua made a huge lunch, which we ate half at their home and carried the rest to eat on the way :)

My maami could not spare me with just a smoothie in the breakfast. So I had breakfast for good 1 hour :D I also went for a 1 hour brisk walk later in the evening :P

Mr and Mrs Allen had chola bhatura  at ab’s cousin’s place, just before this pic. So we did not go to sleep in the afternoon. We rather kept active and had a very light dinner.

Long distance drive is like long distance running for a few reasons:

1) You need a good and big playlist. We went through all old hindi songs, ghazals, our favorites etc.
2) Once you finish running a particular distance then the mental block for that much distance gets cleared and you would want to try to run a longer distance.  Similarly for long distance road trips.
3) Both long travels as well as runs bring people together :)
